How To Create an Item
Most of the many things you can do on Writing.Com happen in an item in a member's portfolio. Many useful writing tools are provided to help you create a variety of innovative items where you can express your creativity and ideas. New features are added often.

Start Writing!
Every Writing.Com member has a personal portfolio for storing his or her Items. Creating an item begins in the CREATE A NEW ITEM drop-down area at the top of your portfolio page.


Choose a method to open the CREATE A NEW ITEM drop-down area:

*Bullet* In the navigation menu under the Writing.Com logo click the CREATE NEW ITEM link. This opens your portfolio page and the drop-down area in one step.

*Bullet* In the left navigation menu under the Writing.Com logo, choose a method to open your portfolio page:
         *Bullet* Click to open the Portfolio menu, and click the Portfolio link in the menu.
         *Bullet* Click on your handle.
    To open the drop-down area In your portfolio page, click the Create Item link at the top left corner below your Portfolio tab.

In the CREATE A NEW ITEM drop-down area at the top of your portfolio, choose the item type you wish to create and click that link to get started.


[Beta] Drag and Drop Feature
If you wish to create a new Static Item, you can begin by using the drag and drop box at the top of the CREATE A NEW ITEM drop-down area. [Note: You cannot use the drag and drop box at the top of the CREATE A NEW ITEM drop-down area to create an entry in a Book item.] For more information about this feature, see How To Upload Writing.
