A short story I wrote for fun based off a picture I saw of a castle.
The Van Dyke castle has always been a bit of a mystery. For centuries King Van Dyke ruled all the land together with his queen. The people loved the royal family. Then the day finally came with the princess would be born. People came from all over the land to see such a beautiful creation. At the arrival of the princess this kingdom began to flourish. The land became a rich and all the people who lived within the kingdom began to see the blessings that have been bestowed upon this land.

Over time as the royal family grew older a decision had to be made. The king felt like it was time to move on and turn this land over to his people. Upon making that decision a dark thick fog came over the land. Soon the royal family had vanished. Some say that somewhere within the walls of the castle the set watching over there kingdom still.

Many decades have past sense that day. The people will say that on the darkest of days as the sun hides within the deaths of the dark thick fog you could hear the gentle words of the royal family as they pay their ghostly respects to the people of the land.

Researcher who have dared walk through the castle walls have often reported how the felt like someone was watching them through the walls. Others have reported secret passages throughout the castle and the royal family are still there waiting for the day when the kingdom will be ready for their gentle kind hand to rule once again. But what happened to the princess? What really happened to the royal family? Did they feel like it was a time for a change of scenery? Time for the land to learn to flourish on it's one? Time to set the people free to rule and govern the land?

What was once a beautiful and gorgeous land has now been filled with a fog that is so thick even the people living there will get lost. But on a clear night from the top of the highest peak you can look down into the valley and see this fog and the sunset that lights up the night sky above.

Even though the story is made up the royal family in my life is my own family. With our little princess waiting to rule her land and anything she could soon crawl too. I love you everyone within my family and the walls of our castle.
